Frustratingly hard heist game

The Professional is a free-to-play simulation game that puts you in charge of a jewel thief. This indie game from Torfi has an uncommon control system. You choose a particular joint and get the thief moving, making the gameplay absurdly addictive. Move one arm or leg at a time and guide your character through obstacles ranging from roadblocks to laser alarms to get the prize at the end.

It has full 3D graphics, a singular yet appropriate background theme, and an immensely difficult control system. All these factors make The Professional a must-try for people who enjoyed QWOP or Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy.

The most challenging heist experience

In The Professional, you take control of the titular character. It uses a simple design approach, you immediately know you’re playing the stereotypical bad guy. His black three-piece suit and ski mask contrast nicely with the red floors and the white-and-cream walls that tell you you’re in a museum. This design makes the game visually intuitive and helps you see minute details.

As mentioned, the main catch of this game is its unusual control system. You choose a specific part or joint at a time, which you move by dragging. This leads to funny and awkward situations, which makes the game equal parts frustrating and addictive. You use this to move the thief past objects blocking your way, and whenever possible, avoid the laser traps.

You can move the camera as well, giving you a 3D view of your character. While the learning curve is quite high for this game, there’s only one level. It comes with a timer, giving players the additional challenge of finishing the game in an even shorter time, giving thrill-seekers a reason to play again. For others, though, once you get the hang of it, it quickly loses its appeal.

Frustrating yet addictive

In conclusion, The Professional offers a uniquely challenging heist experience with its intuitive visual design and unconventional control system. Navigating through the museum as the titular character requires precision and strategy, leading to both frustration and addictive gameplay. While the single level and steep learning curve may deter some players, the added challenge of a timer keeps thrill-seekers engaged. Ultimately, mastering the game's mechanics determines its lasting appeal.
